Rising property appraisals have raised questions for homeowners across Wilbarger County. Taxpayers deserve to understand which decisions county government controls.
Who determines your property's value?
The Wilbarger County Appraisal District determines property values independently. The County Judge does not set individual property appraisals.
What can county government control?
Commissioners Court adopts the county property tax rate. In August 2026, Greg helped lead a reduction in that rate. Wilbarger County has also eliminated its debt.
What if your appraisal is too high?
Property owners have the right to protest their appraised values through the appraisal district's review process and the Appraisal Review Board.

A Career in Public Service
From law enforcement to the county courthouse.
Greg Tyra spent ten years with the Sheriff's Office, rising through the ranks to become Chief Deputy. He then served another ten years as Chief Investigator for the District Attorney's Office in the 46th Judicial District, working felony cases across the three-county district.
Greg has served as Wilbarger County Judge for nearly 20 years. During his judicial service, he has completed 750 hours of continuing judicial education and achieved the Texas Association of Counties' advanced curriculum for Commissioners Court.
